Arabic uses more tokens
The same text in Arabic often uses more tokens than in English or French. The built-in estimator takes it into account.
Caching and batch processing
Official discounts for cached input and batch processing are applied when the provider publishes them.
Frequently asked questions
What is a token?
A piece of text the model reads or writes, often a syllable or a short word. In English a token averages about 4 characters; in Arabic it is usually shorter. APIs bill input tokens (your text) and output tokens (the answer) separately.
Why does output cost more than input?
Generating text takes more computation than reading it. With most providers an output token costs several times an input token: capping answer length is often the best way to save.
Do "reasoning" models cost more?
Often, yes: their internal reasoning is usually billed as output tokens even when it is not shown. Allow a margin for these models.
Do prices include taxes?
No. Prices exclude taxes and are in US dollars; conversion uses the daily rate published on this site, as an indication.
