In Morocco, the start of each Hijri month is announced by the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs after the crescent moon is sighted. The dates calculated here may therefore differ by one, or even two days, from the official date: they are for planning, not for deciding.
Zakat al-mal is due on wealth that reaches the nisab and stays in your possession for a full Hijri year (the hawl). Enter what you own today; the amounts stay on your device.
1. Today's prices
Where to find these prices? From a jeweller, or from the ounce price published every day by financial websites: one troy ounce is 31.1035 grams, so price per gram = ounce price ÷ 31.1035 (remember to convert the currency).
2. What you own
Opinions differ: according to the Hanafi school, worn jewellery is subject to zakat; according to most scholars of the Maliki (followed in Morocco), Shafi'i and Hanbali schools, it is not if it is genuinely worn, though hoarded gold is. Tick according to the opinion you follow.
3. What you owe

Zakat al-fitr, given before the Eid al-Fitr prayer, is a different obligation: its amount per person is set every year in Morocco by the Higher Council of Ulema. It is not calculated here.
How this tool works
Dates are calculated by your browser with the Umm al-Qura calendar, the astronomical reference used in Saudi Arabia among others, or with the civil Hijri calendar, which is purely arithmetic. Neither replaces the moon sighting that is authoritative in Morocco.
For zakat: add up the zakatable wealth (cash, savings, gold and silver at today's price, trade goods, money you are sure to recover), subtract the debts due, then compare with the nisab, the value of 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver. If the net total reaches it and the hawl has passed, zakat is 2.5% of that total. Gold is converted to pure gold by its purity: one gram of 18 carat contains 18/24 of a gram of pure gold.
Updated: October 2026. This tool helps with the arithmetic; it is not a religious ruling. For special situations (a business, property, salary saved over the year, long-term debts), ask a scholar or a trusted institution.

Frequently asked questions
Why two nisabs, gold and silver?
The nisab was set at 20 mithqal of gold (about 85 grams) and 200 dirhams of silver (about 595 grams). Their value today is very different: the silver nisab is much lower. Many references use gold for cash, because the weight of the mithqal is agreed upon; others prefer silver, which is more favourable to the poor. The tool lets you choose.
When should zakat be paid?
When a full Hijri year has passed since you have owned at least the nisab. Many people pick a fixed date, for example during Ramadan, and count their wealth on that day.
Does money from my salary count?
Yes, whatever of it is still saved on the day of the calculation. What you have already spent does not count.
Are the Eid dates official?
No. They are calculated estimates. In Morocco, the official date depends on the moon sighting announced by the Ministry of Habous the evening before.
