Install an APK app
Some of my apps are offered as a direct download on this site, outside Google Play. Here is what that means and how to install them with confidence.
What is an APK file?
An APK is the installation format of an Android app — the very same kind of file the Play Store installs for you in the background. The only difference: here you download and install it yourself.
Why outside Google Play?
These apps target advanced users (developer tools, security, a game) or include features that do not fit the Play Store rules. Offering them directly lets me give them to you as they are — provided you use them responsibly.
Is it safe?
- Every APK is signed with my developer key: the SHA-256 fingerprint shown on the app page is always the same — it is my signature.
- No ads, no trackers added.
- Only install APKs from trusted sources. For my apps, download them only from oufrid.com.
How to install, step by step
- Sign in to your account, then tap "Download APK" on the app page.
- Once downloaded, open the file (from the download notification or the Files app).
- Android will ask permission to install apps from this source. Tap Settings, then turn on "Allow from this source" (on Android 8 and later this permission is granted per app — e.g. for your browser or file manager).
- Go back and tap Install.
- Open the app. Done.
Verify the fingerprint (optional, for the cautious)
Each app page shows the file's SHA-256 fingerprint. If you wish, you can check that the downloaded file has this exact fingerprint before installing (using a hashing app, or sha256sum on a computer). If it matches, the file has not been tampered with.
Updates
Because these apps do not go through the Play Store, they check for updates directly from this site: you will be notified when a new version is available, and you simply download it again.
