🤖 AI and images: retouching, background removal, upscaling
🌐 Français · English · العربية
Remove a background, enlarge a blurry photo, improve a portrait: AI does it in seconds. Here's how to get truly clean results.
1. Background removal: getting a clean cut-out
The result depends mostly on the original photo:
- ✅ Contrast: a dark subject on a light background (or the opposite) gives clean edges.
- ✅ Soft, even light, with no shadow cast on the background.
- ✅ A sharp subject: motion blur makes edges messy.
- ⚠️ Hair, fur, glass, transparent objects are the hardest. Use the highest resolution you can and zoom in to check the edges.
Export as PNG or WebP to keep transparency. In JPG, the background turns white or black.
For online sellers
Plain white background, centered product filling about 85% of the image, the same framing for every product: your shop instantly looks more professional.
2. Upscaling an image
- AI invents missing details in a believable way. It doesn't recover the real information: unreadable text can turn into wrong text.
- ×2 to ×4 upscaling usually looks good. Beyond that, images can start to look "painted".
- For printing, aim for 300 dpi: an A4 poster (21 × 29.7 cm) needs about 2480 × 3508 pixels.
3. Enhancing a photo
The order that gives the best results:
- Crop and straighten the horizon.
- Denoise (night photos) before sharpening.
- Fix light and colors.
- Upscale last, if needed.
Always keep the original, so you can start over if you don't like the result.
4. AI on the phone or in the cloud?
| On the phone (offline) | In the cloud | |
|---|---|---|
| Privacy | ✅ The photo never leaves the phone | ⚠️ The photo is uploaded to a server |
| Speed | Depends on the phone | Often faster |
| Quality | Good | Often better on hard cases |
| Internet | Not needed | Required |
For photos of people, documents or children, prefer on-device processing.
5. Use AI responsibly
- Don't edit someone's photo without their consent, especially to publish it.
- Never use AI to create fake evidence, fake documents or misleading images.
- Say that an image was generated or heavily edited by AI when it matters to the people looking at it.
